Swarovski Crystal

The story of Swarovski Crystal begins around 1895 when Daniel Swarovski went to the Tyrolean Village of Wattens with his patented grinding machine to found the comapny of Swarovski Crystals. The company was founded by Daniel, his brother-in-law Franz Weis and financier Armand Kosmann. Swarovski Crystals started the production of optical products and cutting crystals automatically.

They made jewellery, beads, ornaments, shoes and handbags.
It was Daniel's son, Wilhelm who performed his first smelting experiments to discover ways of producing decorative glass. Wilhelm also instigated the Swarovski Crystal philosphy of staff induction and training. He founded in Wattens the "Industrial school for further education in optics, glass, iron and metal".

Designer Max Schreck started a new product line when he made a little mouse out of chandelier parts and followed this with a series of crystal animals & decorative items, among them the Swarovski crystal lovebirds and the Swan which became their main logo.

Swarovski Crystal now has subsidiary companies in the USA, France, Great Britain, the Benelux countries, in Switzerland, Italy and Austria and sales organizations and distribution partners in over 30 countries throughout Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia. The company is also renowned for its optical products such as Swarovski's binoculars and telescopes.
